I finished this drawing for Illustration Friday many moons ago but never posted it. So in my mind it's a fresh take on aging [and fresh]. Not really sure why I never posted it, perhaps I found the process of aging a tad depressing. Nonetheless, I'm sure one of the first things to go is one's eyes - so that also fits in nicely, if somewhat obliquely, with Everyday Matters challenge #33.
I can also happily report that I'm back in the mood to draw and first cab off the rank will be to draw nototodarus gouldi, or in other words Goulds Squid (aka Arrow Squid). I'm hoping to get this sucker (sorry couldn't help myself) finished by early November. Which is well in advance for its intended temporary home at The Waterhouse 2006. <<Older Main Newer>>

As soon as I saw this I had to blink a few times. Seriously, I thought it was my eyesight. You should have posted it for aging but it certainly fits the Eye challenge.
I hope you post the new drawing as you do it. I loved the last time you did that. It was fascinating and a real learning experience.

Ah yes - my eyes are not the freshest today nor in the last multiple won’t mention how many years! I love your ‘fresh’ take and agree with fears about clinical trials on anti-aging (or the aging, which ever way you would like to view it). Great to see you back at IF! Looking forward to seeing your work hanging at the Waterhouse!

That is wonderful. Amazing the effect the two sets of eyes have on the viewer. I presume that it didn’t have that wierd effect on you whilst you were drawing it. Does it have that effect on you now that it’s completed or do you know each pencil stroke too well?

Gah, my eyes, my eyes…!
I don’t know if it’s because I wear specs but I can’t look at this image longer than a few secs. Certainly gets your point across though!

Just briefly to Janey: I’ll see what I can do regarding Squid updates (stay tuned). Now to Julie: the key to this effect is not to have too big a gap between the eyes - from a drawing point of view you don’t notice the effect as much as you are concentrating on the shading and linework and working close-up etc, but it is still noticeable (obviously more so when you stand back to then view). Thanks to everyone who commented.

Hi, it’s been awhile, nice to see you back!
it IS difficult to look at for long, makes my eyes jump! wonderful range of grays in the shading.
and I’d also love to see the Squid in progress!

Det, I just can’t believe your talent… I see it but I just can’t believe it. Your work is like nothing I’ve ever seen.
I humbly applaud your work and style.

Waaah! it’s clever but it made me cross-eyed and that’s not a good look for the ageing lol - great to see new posts too.
