This started off as a reaction to a bulletin board discussion at work re: the death of Don Bradman. The topics involved: whether he was the greatest cricketer that ever lived (no way!), the greatest batsman (no doubt!), what type of person he was (not a team player by many accounts), and whether his place as an Australian icon was overstated (probably). Anyway, nothing better was swirling around in my head at that point in time, so why not do a drawing.

I was heavily influenced by William Delafield Cook's Homage to Ingres and wanted a similar look and feel to that drawing. I doubt that I achieved my goal, but because it is as much a homage to WDC, likewise art deco furniture, than it is to Bradman, I called it Icons as opposed to Icon.

The image of
Bradman leaving the Sydney Cricket Ground is of his last first class innings.
