ancient.jpg

This will have to do for this week's theme, and I'm posting it (relatively) early as I'll be away for the next couple of days. Yes, I'm off fishing aboard the MV Top Cat! Alas, it's charter boat fishing as opposed to my preferred fly-fishing, nonetheless I'm ever thankful for the opportunity to dangle a line.

In the meantime, check out the other entries on
Illustration Friday.

this is beautiful! but i am so confused…it is 3d or 2d? it looks like an ancient piece of stone from a temple or a manuscript! amazing and quite eerie! -hollie

p.s. i’m very jealous you get to go fishing..even if it is on a charter boat.

Beautiful work. That illo just makes me sad for some reason. (Is it a purse?)

Oh, I have a pin and earrings just like this…I had forgotten about them until now! Great job!

Hi guys/gals and thanks for the comments.  Just to answer a few of your questions:

It’s 2D, mix of graphite and charcoal, and it’s a brooch - which I thought fitted the theme.

And Ellen you’re commenter #100 - who would’ve thunk it that I’d get anyone looking at this site let alone 100 comments.

WoW. Now that’s some photorealism right there, YUP! That’s fabulous. It looks truly three dimensional. Beautifully rendered, Detlef. Hats off! Now you’re making me realize that I’ve really got to carve out some time to do an illo for illustration friday this week too, especially given the fact that it was my suggestion this week!! eek. I feel so coerced! (kidding). Have a fabulous time fishing (hard to envision that from my very frozen lump o’ Winter and Canada!!!)

What is there left to say! This is magnificent, Detlef. I hope that you enjoyed your fishing trip and have come home restored.

why have i not been here before? your work is so well rendered… your highlights and lowlights actually bend the drawings… making them come alive and pop.
