For some reason I wanted to draw something gothic - yeah it doesn't really fit the theme, on the other hand given my style and medium of choice I could draw just about anything and (at a stretch) it'd probably fit the theme.

Unfortunately, there isn't a lot of gothic style architecture near at hand. Indeed, there are only 4 genuine gargoyles in Canberra and even one of those is a pretty lame excuse of a gargoyle. Well may you ask who would live in a city with only 4 bloody gargoyles.

Nonetheless, I think this chap would feel right at home
here [just love that gothic mansion].

You’re pencil work is so absolute.  It’s so real.  Makes this little guy look alive.  I think I hear Quasimodo coming to take him for a walk.

Agree he would love to live at the Mansion on the Hill. He is quite formidable and glad he lives in Canberra. He also has an exquisite place to prowl. Which place of civic affairs does he reside? Have always wondered how a Gargoyle protects from evil spirits when it appears to rather attract them. Another great entry from Detlef!

Anon - this cat/dog hybrid adorns St Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, just down the road from Parliament House (which may explain the convergence between good and evil).

Agree Parliament House inhabitants could easily be threatening the grounds of St. Andrews. Glad cat/dog is taking care of things.

Yet another excellent drawing… and I’ve been away, it’s great to see your site again smile

you’re right, just about anything you have would have worked ! beautiful shadings, also really like the way this one is composed.

You should make more trips up here to the big smoke to get a dose of the gothic. Plenty to go ‘round, here.

Great drawing - thanks for another lesson.

Four more than I’ve got!

Nice work, Detlef!

Detlef, you do know how to please me. Noir and Gargoyles and probably something else I can’t remember now. Let’s see if you conjure up some of my other favorites. If so, I’ll declare you a magician.

Me again, had to come back and say thank you for the comment about my mother’s portrait.  I also wanted to see if quaisimodo made an appearance yet.
