These are doodles I did the last time I went punting. They were sketched on multi-purpose keno forms and then scanned and not touched-up in photoshop. Many words of punting wisdom can be found on them (including my top two tips for the Melbourne Cup) use these words wisely and you won't go broke.

A BUTTERFLY FLAPS ITS WINGS IN THE AMAZON & I WIN AT KENO

WOULD ROYALTY BE SEEN IN A CASINO

IF ONLY HORSES COULD TALK - IMAGINE THE INSIDE KNOWLEDGE YOU COULD GET! WHAT'S THAT......LEICA FALCON & EYE POPPER IN THE MELBOURNE CUP
Yes I've also been tagged....had to happen at some stage. In this case the taggers were Anonymous Artwork (or one of her alter-egos) and Katherine from Knitpowers. The following 20 vignettes/facts are meant to enlighten you all or bore you to death....your choice.
1. I'm extraordinarily clever - usually too clever by half
2. The last time I shed a tear was when Mummify died
3. I have a quirky and dry sense of humour, but I can't tell jokes
4. I hate shaving, but I can't stand growing a beard, so I look stubbley most days
5. I consider myself boredom personified
6. My favourite book is Cod - The biography of a fish that changed the world by Mark Kurlansky, I've read it ten times
7. My regular read is any decent horse racing form guide
8. The Boss (Bruce Springsteen) is the greatest live music act I will ever see
9. I must be the only person in Australia to have watched the brilliant English comedy series, Happiness, when it screened here
10. After half a life time I'm at last comfortable with my name
11. I prefer odd numbers over even numbers
12.
13. Like I said I prefer odd numbers over even numbers (take that #12)
14. I can't stand blatant hypocrisy
15. I am a walking contradiction
16. I don't eat breakfast
17. I really should do more exercise
18.
19. Hate those even numbers
20. I am a procrastinator
I won't be passing this tagging experience on to anyone else, the rules stipulate that one should be sending this on to as many people as it takes minutes to complete the task....if I did this I would become a professional spammer because it's taken me an eon.
Remember to smile and laugh it makes the world a happy place....and imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

Seriously Detlef,
Your ‘Broken’ illustration is like nothing I have seen of your talents before! These would make WONDERFUL prints!!
For one who doesn’t like the brand Tag - you have done an extraordinarily clever tag. I have not seen ‘Happiness’ NO Royalty would NOT been seen in a Casino };-}

Anon: I’ll give it some serious thought - after I finish analysing the support races on Tuesday’s race card

Love the doodles! You were, too clever by half and now I have nothing funny to say. Damn even numbers. They say comedy comes in threes. Of course “they” say a lot of things.
love

Exquisite illustrations, Mr. Jumpertz. And I agree with everything on your list (except some of them).

So ... who did you bet on? We have something in common with the horse racing thing, though I mostly restrict it to Dick Francis (blush) and watching it on TV (and I just got given a generic “Melbourne” ball cap yesterday, though I got it from my sons’ Auskick coach). Did you use a coin as your Queen reference? (clever clever) I love these little illustrations. Next week I’m dropping off a painting to a competition/auction at a local harness racing track for an equine artist friend whose design was chosen recently for a Canadian quarter—the queen on the other side of course. I’ll be checking around now for something unusual to doodle on after seeing these… So there’s all the degrees of connection I can find for one lonely blog response.

Well I agree with #1, #8 goes without saying. Doesn’t everyone know that? I just received a copy of the StoryTeller Video - wonderful. I’m rather liberal myself so even numbers don’t bother me. My racing knowledge comes from Dick Francis - books and tv. And your doodles are indeed marvellous as is you’re admission that they are not touched up in photoshop. Will there be another update on Charley soon?

The Unknown: “They” are the be all and end all of everything. A cautionary note do not cross them.
Pink Fifi: I agree until I disagree.
Andrea: The (young) Queen adorns our $5 note (and coins as well). The bet(s) will be placed within the next 24 hours, I will take some exotics around Leic Falcon and Eye Popper.
Janey: Charlie is sleeping, he will rise from his slumber soon.

The pictures are great - s’wonderful to see you do some work that looks so good but didn’t take an aeon.
I loved reading your tag. I’m curious about your wonderfully interesting name - where did it come from?
Posted by Julie Oakley on 01.11.05 at 09.15am
Julie: My name is German in origin, the family emigrated to Australia when I was 12 months old. The other males in the family had names that easily fitted into anglo society: Peter and Thomas.
All: The Melbounre Cup has left a hole in my pocket, always next year.

The gods of horse racing must be shining on me. I won $42 in 2 sweeps after being a little put out at drawing the same horse in 2. The thing came second and I still can’t remember its name.
Love the illustrations and finding out just a little more about you.

Where are you hiding, Mr. Jumpertz? You missed the hellcat party AND Halloween!
Posted by Pink FiFi on 03.11.05 at 04.56am
Robyn: Glad you had a winning day. The sweep is an institution, and has a long history - for the trivia buffs the biggest Melbourne Cup sweepstakes in Australia were conducted in the late 1800s by George Adams, who parlayed that money into the Tattersall’s empire that runs most of Australia’s lotto competitions.
Pink Fifi: I am a complex individual, at this time of the year I have a singular focus - that focus is directed at the track. I did say happy purrthday to Hellcat though, and a belated happy(?) Halloween to you and all the other trick or treaters.

Genius! I can’t say much more…I’m just not clever enough:>

I added you to my blogroll. Hope that’s ok…
Posted by andrea on 04.11.05 at 04.33am
Carla: Your remarks mean that I am in danger of getting a swollen head, then again wearing the mantle of genius has a certain ring to it
Andrea: I have no objections, but I’m not a daily blogger or even weekly blogger, more like a fortnightly blogger…still I’m touched.
