Medium: Completed drawing - graphite and coloured pencil
Size: 500mm x 380mm
They say the eyes are the window to the soul - if you looked into these eyes you'll find EMPTINESS!
The above s(p)lice is part of a satirical drawing I've just completed. It gets framed today and will be entered for judging (and hopefully selection) in a "subversive" art competition next month....all rather cryptic I know (the only person who might know what I'm talking about is Artwork Anonymous).
If it makes the cut next month, then I might reveal more. <<Older Main Newer>>

I love this drawing. I couldn’t find any emptiness but I sure would like to know more about the subversive art competition. Sounds like something the NSA would like to peek in on!

Oh my gosh, I thought I was looking at a photo. Beautiful!

Jaimie: I’m sure the NSA will monitor as will ASIO (given the new sedition laws), and you don’t see emptiness? - sheesh it ain’t looking good for the judging.
Big A: Thanks and yes I’m proud of his glasses, the one thing fills me with pride in this drawing.
Longer A(nonymous): Yes it’s right to be very afraid.
Hellcat: You eat eels don’t you…and don’t you find it ironic that Turkey has bird flu?
Andrea: I have pooped many a party, so I hope it isn’t time for the poop to be flung at me….and patience is a virtue - all will be revealed in due course.
Neil: Thanks
TeriC: I’ll take the beautiful as a compliment for me, the subject in the drawing is the opposite.

Hellcat says, “EATEN!”. I elect YOU get an Education!

At last!!!!!!
Posted by Merlinprincesse on 15.01.06 at 06.55am
Am I looking into the eyes of a politician?
You’ve captured how one eye is trustworthy and the other more enigmatic.

Hellcat: I have an education and am erudite, you however are extraneous.
Marc: Thank you for your comments.
The Unknown: Way off beam - have you been spending too much time with Wil Wheaton? While I said I would be doing a self portrait this year, this is NOT me. Once I have done me you will be the first to know.
Merlinprincesse: I think you are in cahoots with the Unknown and off the mark. [congrats - you are the 500th legitimate commenter on this blog - open up a bottle of champagne my dear girl]
Caroline: Excellent and ever-correct.

beautiful work, here.
his soul doesn’t look empty to me, but filled with old sadness he hasn’t quite put past him…

and even though I escaped over two years ago I’ll never forget those eyes.
you must of loved the unknown’s assumption.

I thought it was, E is for eyebrows!! those things are huge!
Posted by Anthony on 15.01.06 at 08.57pm
Quite amazing…I thought it was a photograph. I hope it does “make the cut” so we’ll be able to see the full piece.

The eyes are so great, very nice drawing…I am looking forward to seeing the whole picture…curious me!
Posted by Gudbrandsdottir on 16.01.06 at 12.54am
I’d recognize him anywhere. and I want him to go away fast!. All in the cabal have emptiness in their eyes. Looking forward to seeing finished product - good luck with competition.

Merlinprincesse: Be patient, have some more champagne in the meantime.
Catnapping: Sadness….perhaps he does harbour something from the dim dark past, however that’s no reason for him to take out on the rest of us.
Scott: Well if the eyes still strike fear into you, then it’s a passable likeness. I don’t blame the Unknown, how could one he is full of so much love…..on the IT front a site revamp is envisaged.
Anthony: The eyebrows are big and a giveaway.
Carla: I hope I make the cut too, thanks.
Gudbrandsdottir: Curiousity killed the cat, stay tuned down the track.
Lydia: Are you thinking who I’m thinking? Contact me off line to confirm or have your illusions shattered….you are on the right track ‘though.

Evil and wicked good. At first thought this was a politician from the past, but I’ve reconsidered. Wonderful.

Hhehhheeeeeheee Entertaining!

Left all my eeeee words on AnthonyĆs blog, none left for you. So, all you get is a praise for technical virtuosity and deviant mind. Do they praise deviants where you are from?

Great pencil work and compositions. Is the drawing of the tree with bench from life? I imagine you must have been drawing when you were studying.
Posted by modroom on 20.01.06 at 12.15am
Love your pencil works, so fine and so much details. You must have taken a long time to finish each piece of work.

Welcome new comers Twisselman, Lily White, modroom, and chan wah…..Anon back again.
Thanks one and all just to sort some questions you have:
Lily White: being a deviant I get very little praise so any I get is welcome.
Modroom: the tree was done off a reference photo….I draw too slowly to draw in situ. Yes, I did drawing when I was studying (in primary school up to Grade 4), then gave it up for 20+ years, and resumed it well and truly after I had finished university.
chan wah: yes it takes me an eternity to finish this stuff.
Posted by Detlef on 20.01.06 at 06.48pm
I just wondered if the tree exists, so that’s okay. In some ways it’s good you had a long gap from drawing because that means there are still some pencils left in the world. I’m a bit of a gap merchant myself but getting back on track. Cool.
