I put in a big effort on this drawing over Saturday and Sunday morning. If you have enough motivation and inspiration even the intricate bits don't seem that hard. I guess when you get in a particular zone it all falls into place. That said there's still a large slab of of background and foreground foliage to complete.
It is now obviously apparent that the centrepiece of this drawing is actually not a crab but a bird native to Christmas Island - the Golden Bosun Bird. While the placement of the bird in the tropical jungle might not be correct from a naturalist's point of view, this is how I always conceived this composition from the minute when it popped it my head- a juxtaposition of disparate elements.
The bird will be a challenge over the ensuing weeks but if I can channel a crab and depict it then I guess it shouldn't be any difficulting channeling a bird. Indeed over the weekend I thought I was moulting! <<Older Main Newer>>

Wow, wow, wow! This is really coming along. Your pencil work is so stunning. I wish I could achieve this level of detail. Such finesse!
