I had an off line request to post a close-up of the bird's head. It appears there are still some teething problems with the new blog design, including the comments field (now rectified) - hopefully everything will be running smoothly soon, bear with me until then.

Anyway, back to this drawing - the question that was asked of me was whether I mixed graphite and colour pencil. The answer is no, as I have found it to be a difficult mix to accomplish leaving the area very muddy. Instead, I use different shades of grays to build up shadow (see beak), this gives a more realistic effect, enabling the base colour of the beak to be suitably darkened without becoming overly polluted. Then again I'm fllying by the seat of my pants when it comes to colour so don't take my word as gospel. Now back to it.
