I woke up this morning a bit dirty on myself, certainly woke up the wrong side of the bed - when I eventually woke up that is. I slept through the alarm and one hour's worth of ten minute reminders as well. I was already thinking what sort of day it was going to be based on such an inauspicious start. It didn't get too much better when I stumbled out to face the day and go for bike ride, only to discover a flat tyre - then the pump broke, thankfully had a spare. Nothing left to do apart from take out the frustration riding up Mt Taylor, a nice two kilometre steady climb to blow out the cobwebs, and a total of 30 kilometres later the mood had improved enough to start drawing.
The bike ride worked a treat, really really in the zone and was able to finish all the fanned tail feathers. Now this was a particularly beneficial drawing session, everything flowed, no self doubts, no errors. So good in fact that I at last worked out what was bugging me about the upper wing - I had failed to judge the correct juncture of the bottom of the wing with the body of the golden bosun bird. I had it too far up the body. With that blooper now resolved, I can concentrate on filling in the foliage at the bottom of the page during the balance of this week (hopefully). It will also make the fanned tail feathers more pronounced when they are framed within the darker foliage, and as usual I can then do some more fiddling with the values of the feathers.
That's enough for today, some retail therapy being the reward!

Nice catch on the wing…will be looking forward to see how the background makes the tail feathers pop…I’ve never seen one of these birds but it is interesting that the area right before the feathers fan out doesn’t appear to taper…
