At last this drawing is out of my system. It took a while, it's an ok effort I think. I wonder who ends up winning this wrestle - oarfish or squid? Battles between these two sea creatures have probably been occurring since time began but no one has ever been privy to them. The oarfish, in particular, has through the course of history been commonly mistaken by sailors as being a sea serpent.

I quite like the writhing swirl, and in the end the choice of colour isn't too bad - a sort of vibrant yet muted colour palette that isn't too far removed from that of some the early naturalist artists such as
John James Audobon. Can't really go wrong with a mix of red, white. black and shades in between as a graphic element. I suppose the limited colour palette is also being artistically true to the spirit of the Waterhouse Prize, which this will be entered for (maybe third time lucky in the selection process this time), while still enabling some artistic freedom. In one of those quirks of fate just prior to posting this drawing on the blog I went to the letterbox and there it was a letter from the Waterhouse organisers with enclosed entry form for this year's competition - a sign or plain coincidence.

Alas it's not quite up to artistic standards of either Walton Ford or Tiffany Bozic.

Been wondering when the next panel was coming out! Perfect mix and contrast of darks and lights and wrapping about! Great visual punch to this, especially how you used the red without overpowering the image. My only complaint is that you keep taking such long breaks between drawings trying to have a life of some sort…and that you use mm that I have to try and convert to inches to figure out the size…we gave up on the metric system a long time ago…
