Hot off the press (or the internet equivalent) it's official Noir has been selected as a finalist in the Willoughby City Art Prize (2D drawing and printmaking section).
After a few recent rejections, I'm thrilled to bits - I'm particularly pleased because from what I can make out from the entries list is that Noir is up against some absolutely fantastic printmakers and artists. I can't get over the fact that my work will hang beside the amazing work of Rew Hanks, Rhonda Thwaites, Marco Luccio, Alannah Dreise, Geraldine Berkemeier and Patrica Casey amongst others.
Now it's off to the shops to get that bottle of champers (x2) - I'll worry about the logistics of framing and getting Noir to Sydney at some other time.
PS. Hobby Horse I will be finished this weekend and posted on the site once I calm down. Also many thanks to M. who keeps encouraging me and to others who have left comments on the site - all of it has helped keep me going.

That’s a great new work you’ve got on the front page of your website. The painting reminds me of the one from “Good Will Hunting” - the one that’s in Robin Williams’ character’s office.
Can I ask you, how long does it usually take you to complete a work?

Emily - the front picture is randomly rotated from a choice of three….but to your question (which is one I get on a regular basis) > many hours++++ (I draw big and slow, but am getting quicker!!!). On average 30 to 36 hours per work.

Detlef, thanks for your reply. I usually get the one with the seat beneath the tree. I’ll have to refresh the page a few times!
Also, could you tell me how large the works are?

Emily, at least A2 - usually A1: 110cmX84cm

I’d just viewed some of your works and Noir struck me right away..loved it. Then right after that, I hopped over to the blog and saw this post! Congratulations!
(I’ve stopped in before, but don’t think I mentioned it? I don’t always leave comments these days.) Anyway..love your art! Keep up the great work!
Never knew you were in Canberra! Cheers, mate!

Hearty congratualtions, Detlef. This is a well deserved recognition of you work. Does this mean that you will be exhibited in Willoughby? Since it is near my neck of the woods, I would be able to get up close and personal with your art.

Alas, Robyn - the exhibition has been and gone. It was on from September 4 to 12. If it’s any compensation at least you’ve seen Noir in the virtual (under)world…lol. Next time (if there is a next time) anything of mine is hanging up in Sin City, I’ll give you advance notice.
