Well, there's been some more progress although it does seem like a grind when I draw. Colour pencils are not usual medium, so I think I'm probably going slow - even by my standards - understanding the medium and the incessant layering down of colour. Before some smart arse naturalist/biologist/ichthyologist pipes up and comments, yes there is some poetic license occurring. The skin colour and patterning I've simplified, because I thought the drawing would become too busy and it throw out the overall colour balance. Guess that's why they call it art!!
For some context as what's left to do, see below. Too much for my liking, and too much that can still go wrong.

Hey captain. Really excited to see how this item plays out since I first saw the sketches. Looking great so far…I feel your pain on the slowness of things. I’m pretty slow too, especially with colored pencil…so I have to break it down into working chunks and that only adds to the painfully slow nature…but it will work out in the end…I started on a new graphite piece and have about 10 hours in not counting prep time…and have just a small section done on the main character. But I think it looks pretty decent (not counting that I will have to make some value adjustments on the face at the end.)
I sent your package off last week so counting for travel via emu you should get it within the next year or so…

It’s no doubt a great and wonderful sketch to look at. You have done a great job by preparing the sketch. I have liked your work.
